ST Thomas Tourny
Our team travelled to St. Thomas for their first tourny of the year and had a great weekend. We struggled out the gate against a very strong St. Thomas team on Friday night and lost the game 8-0.
The team regrouped and played a much better game Saturday morning against Whitby, and despite being down 2-0 early, the boys battled back to a 3-3 tie. Our first goal by Mitchell McGregor, looked like a replay of a goal from last weekend with

Evan Stenger and Mitchell coming in on a 2 on 1 with Evan making a perfect feed  to Mitchell who made no mistake on his wrister from the slot. Evan Stenger banged in our second goal to tie it up at 2s. After Whitby went up 3-2 in the second period, our team controlled the game, but had a hard time finding the back of the net. Mark Hernandez, who had an excellent tournament, scooped up the puck in our end late in the third and led a beautiful end to end rush, cutting fearlessly to the net to get a shot away; Ian Pollard followed to the net with his stick down and was in perfect position to bang in the rebound to tie it up.    In our final game against local rivals Chatham, the boys played a solid game, but had a tough time with the refereeing and found themselves down a man, on very suspect calls (according to the Chatham coaches as well) on a number of occasions. Coach Bil pulled out the old white flag on a stick after Cam Iler was called for slashing as he split the D going to the net on a scoring attempt. Due credit to the Chatham squad who played very well and cashed in on 3 powerplay goals, earning a 5-0 win.    The mini-sticks marathon was highly competitive and no outright winner could be determined, from my vantage point (thanks to Mrs. Stenger for orgainzing the 3 on 3 format). Coach Bil was CLEARLY dominant in the cannonball contest Saturday night.    A HUGE thanks to all the players and parents for a very enjoyable weekend!
