Quite a Storm
Essex ravens fall 4-1 to the Select 7 Storm.

Friday, February 8th 2013 the Storm took to their home ice to face the Essex Ravens in their first meeting of the season.  Midway throught the first period, a scrum in front of the Essex net caused the puck to pop into the open ice.  Connor B was there to pounce on it and fire it to the back of the net, giving the Storm a 1-0 lead.  Hard back checking by the Storm held the Ravens at bay for the remainder of the first period.

Intermission saw the team doing some hard back and forth skating in an attempt to loosen up our legs after a long hard PA day for the kids appeared to result in some tired legs.

The second period saw some unbelievable saves by Storm netminder Tommy M including one trapper save and subsequent pose that would have made Patrick Roy envious.

At the 5:34 mark of the 3rd period, Nico S broke down the left wing, put a nifty move on their right defenceman, drove hard to the net and buried the Storm's 2nd goal of the night, giving us a 2-1 lead.  Shortly after, Cale M dangled around the hash marks, put a head fake on their left winger and rifled the puck to the back of the net.  A late break by the Essex team resulted in a solid goalscoring opportunity but Matteo R, dropped to his knees at the faceoff dot and provided a fantastic blocked shot preventing Essex from getting the puck on net.  On his next shift, Cale again stripped the puck off the opponents behind their own net, came around the net and beat the goalie on the short side giving the Storm a 4-1 lead and the victory.

Our next match is at home on the 15th when we host the Tecumseh team.  This will be a true test for the team, one that we are up to.  See you at the rink.
