Erie North Shore Storm Peewee Minors 02/02/13 – OMHA Preliminary Playdowns
WOOHOO!! Peewee Minor Storm sweeps Essex and moves on to OMHA quarterfinals!!!

Saturday February 2 the Peewee Minor Storm prepared to meet the Essex Ravens for game 3 of the OMHA playdown preliminary series. The team was totally pumped for this game, having already earned 4 of the 6 points needed to move on to the next round! Plus they had the home ice for this very important game! As the team and coaches entered the arena the hometown crowd went wild, hoping that this would be the final game in the series. Essex had other plans as they knew they were playing for their lives! The first period both teams played a very physical game as they desperately tried to be the first to put the puck in the net. Four minutes before the buzzer Essex got on the board and the period ended with the Ravens in the lead. Essex outshot the Storm 5-3 in this period. In the second both teams continued to fight hard for the puck with three of the games four penalties given out. The Storm tried their hardest to solve the Ravens goalie but even though they outshot Essex 7-3 were unable to put the puck in the net. The third period both teams refused to let up and continued playing with determination. It paid off big-time for the Storm when halfway through the period Austin Marr got through the Raven defense and scored the first Storm goal of the game assisted by Daniel Price and Kristian Pelling! Essex fought hard to try and regain the lead for the rest of the period, getting 6 shots on net versus the Storms 4, but were unable to answer this goal and the third period ended in a 1-1 tie. The teams and their coaches prepared for the 10 minute overtime period, with both desperate for the win. The fourth period started with the Storm on the defensive as Essex began peppering goalie Connor Axford with shot after shot. The Storm didn’t give up and fought back, finally getting one shot on the Essex net, and it was the one shot that counted! Ethan Litster scored the game winning and series winning goal 2 minutes before the final buzzer, assisted by Daniel Price and Franco Shaften! Even though this was a sweep this was by no means an easy series for the Storm to win as Essex was a very tough opponent and played very well throughout the three games. Storm goalie Connor Axford once again played a fantastic game in net stopping 20 Essex shots. Storm forwards Owen Stannard, Robbie Brush, Kristian Pelling, Rebecca Misiasz, Daniel Price, Austin Marr, Declan Handley and Ethan Litster all did a great job breaking through the Essex defense with 15 shots on net in this game alone. Storm defense Mitchell Renaud, Franco Shaften, KayCyn Hernandez, Michael Connelly and Ryan Mucha did a terrific job keeping Essex away from the Storm net throughout the series. The team now prepares for the quarterfinals in their quest for the OMHA Championship! All the Storm families and fans are very proud of this team and their accomplishments and we’re all looking forward to the next series victory! Great job Storm!!!!!
