Erie North Shore Storm Peewee Minors - 03/07/13 – 03/10/13 Play-offs
Peewee Minors have a busy weekend with four games in four days!

Thursday March 7 the Peewee Minors travelled to Essex to take on the Ravens. Still pumped after their big 9-1 win over Riverside the week before, the very confident Storm were more than ready to take on their rivals. With goalie Connor Axford between the pipes and a shortened defensive line the Storm came out strong, playing a very physical game, as did Essex. In the first period both teams saw many scoring opportunities without success until the 6 minute mark when Rebecca Misiasz on the powerplay buried the puck in the net with the game winner with help from Declan Handley and Kristian Pelling. Both teams continued to play hard into the second period, with Essex outshooting the Storm as they desperately tried to tie up the score. But the Storm wasn’t done and added another goal to their tally when Kristian shot the puck in past the Essex netminder for goal number two assisted by Rebecca and Declan. The third period saw a lot of action by both teams as Essex became more and more frustrated trying to score and the Storm remained just as determined to prevent it. Both teams sent players to the penalty box for a total of 10 minutes each resulting in many powerplays and penalty kills. The strong Storm defense protected the net to the final buzzer giving Connor a well-earned shutout with a final score of 2-0. The shots on net were an even 23-23 showing how hard both teams played! Another sweet victory for the Peewee Minor Storm!

Friday March 8 the Storm were back at home playing against the Tecumseh Eagles AA team. The Storm knew this would be another tough game and were glad to have a full roster going into it. The first period saw many scoring opportunities for the Storm as they outshot Tecumseh 8-1 but none found the back of the net. The second period the Eagles picked up speed as they finally started getting some shots on net, with one getting through two minutes before the buzzer. The Storm didn’t give up and outshot the Tecumseh team again this period but were still unable to solve the goalie. The third period saw the Storm pepper the Tecumseh goalie with 15 shots on net as they tried to get one in before the final buzzer. Finally with thirteen seconds left in play and goalie Connor Axford pulled for the extra attacker, Ethan Litster saved the day by tying up the score and averting a loss, assisted by Austin Marr and Kristian Pelling! The Storm outshot Tecumseh 33-15 showing their determination and perseverance! Connor did a great job in net against the Tecumseh shooters. Even though it wasn’t a win it still felt like another great victory for the Storm!

Saturday March 9 the Storm played at home again this time against the Windsor Jr. Spitfires. With goalie Scotti Beneteau protecting the net and a full roster the Storm prepared to play this AA team. The first period saw both teams fighting hard for the puck and just when it looked like the period would end in a draw Ethan Litster slid one past the goalie unassisted to get the Storm on the board first! The Storm didn’t let up going into the second with Declan Handley burying the puck thirty seconds into the period with help from Ethan and Rebecca Misiasz. Two minutes later Ethan scored again on a pass from Daniel Price. One minute later Rebecca got a goal of her own assisted by Declan and Ethan. Windsor finally got on the board with a goal at the nine minute mark, but Owen Stannard answered that goal a few minutes later with the game winning goal assisted by Daniel and Kristian Pelling. In the third Windsor started making a comeback due to many powerplay opportunities, scoring three more times and earning a penalty shot which they were unable to complete, ending the game with a score of 5-4 and another victory for the Storm! Goalie Scotti Beneteau faced 21 shots on net with the Storm outshooting Windsor at 28 shots.

Sunday March 10 the Storm prepared to play their fourth game in four days against the very tough AA Kent Cobras. The Cobras struck first with the only goal of the first period at the eight minute mark. The second period the Storm fought hard outshooting Kent 18-10, but the Cobras still managed to score two more times before the Storm finally got on the board with an unassisted goal by Ethan Litster two minutes before the buzzer. The third period started out with Kent scoring two more goals while on the powerplay. The Storm didn’t give up and Declan Handley added another goal with help from Michael Connelly and Robbie Brush at the nine minute mark. Kent added one more goal one minute before the final buzzer ending the game in a 6-2 loss for the Storm, their first loss of the play-offs. Goalie Connor Axford was solid in net against the 22 shots he faced. The Storm outshot this very tough team with 27 shots on net. Considering how hard these kids worked over the last four days they did an exceptional job against a very strong AA team. Great job out there Peewee Minors!!!
