Big Bear Tournament Feb. 15-17
This past weekend, the Minor Atom boys traveled to Ann Arbor, Michigan for the annual Big Bear Tournament. First game action saw Erie take a first period lead over the Cleveland Heights Tigers 1-0. Working to hold the lead, Erie did a great job at keeping the Tigers scoreless in the second. With a goal a piece in the third period, Erie came out on top with a hard earned win, 2-1.

In game 2, the Minor Atoms met Toledo Cherokee for a late night game. Erie won the first period, up 2-1. Periods 2 and 3 were all about the Storm as the scoreboard couldn't keep up with the Erie goals, netting five more before the end of the game to take a 7-1 win. On Sunday, Erie faced the Dallas Penguins at the fantastic Yost Arena. Our boys were determined to show the Dallas team what Canadian hockey is all about as they scored two goals in the first period. Still holding a 2-1 lead at the end of the second period, Erie sealed the deal with one more goal in the third to take a 3-1 win and secure a spot in the final with their 3-0 weekend record. The championship game was a rematch between Erie Northshore and Cleveland Heights Tigers. From the first whistle, it was apparent that both teams wanted the title of champion. Cleveland took the lead 1-0 in an extremely fast paced first period. The boys kept heavy pressure, searching for their first goal but could not beat the Cleveland goalie. As the second period was scoreless, Cleveland scored another goal in the third, 2-0. Erie dug deep and kept driving the net which brought the score up 2-1 in the third, but it wasn't enough to secure the championship. Skating off with heads held high, knowing they left it all out on the ice, Erie Northshore Storm finished as Finalists in the tournament. In all, stellar goal tending and amazing contributions by all players made for a great tournament weekend! Join the Minor Atom boys on Saturday February 22 at 7:00pm, as they will be participating in Mickey Renaud Night at Tecumseh arena.
