Novice AE fans have been kept on the edge of their seats the last 2 weeks watching their hometown favorites battle it out with the AA Kent Cobra Novice AE team in the first round of the OMHA playdowns.
The teams were very closely matched and the 6 point series was a very hard fought one, with Kent proving to be a very worthy opponent.
At the last update, Kent had won the first game of the series, and was up 2 points. Storm battled back the following day, tying the series in Chatham with a 3-2 win over the Cobras. Our next game the following weekend ended in a draw, despite the extra overtime period, giving each team one point. Headed back to Chatham for game # 4, the Storm suffered a disappointing loss, putting the Cobras ahead in the series 5-3.
At our game on Saturday, February 1, we found ourselves in a MUST win situation. Even a tie would give the Cobras the point they needed to take the series. The kids fought hard and while there were some tense moments during the game, they won the game 4-2, forcing a game 6 with each team tied at 5 points each.
Our final game was played in Tilbury on Tuesday, February 4. The kids were hungry for a win and the excitement in the change room before the game was at an all-time high. A second MUST win situation for the Storm, this was by far the best game our team has played all season!! Teamwork was evident throughout all 3 periods. Defence worked hard to clear the zone and limit scoring opportunities. Forwards skated fast and fought battles in the corners to set up awaiting players in front of the net. Our superstar goalie stopped numerous shots on net with her quick reaction time and amazing skills. Truly a full team effort and we pulled out a decisive 3-0 win, shutting the Cobras out.
We will take on Tecumseh in the next round of the playdowns. Watch for a schedule update and come out to cheer us on. GO STORM GO!!!!
