Oct 24 – 26 - Weekend Update - Win, Win and Draw
On Friday October 24th a very flat ENS Atom Minor Storm took on Southpoint at Kingsville.

The Storm failed to score in the first period and in fact went into the third period tied as an unassisted goal by Ty M in the second was countered by Southpoint.  In the third the Storm went ahead for keeps with a goal by Nick S assisted by Michael H and Cale M and a goal by AJ assisted by Cale. Notable defensive plays were accomplished by Ty H (poke check), Owen Ba (shot from blue line) and Owen Bu (rush and shot at the net).  All were hoping the team would show up for Saturday’s game.

The Atom Minors were skating for redemption in Harrow on Saturday nite against the only team in Bluewater to hand them a defeat - the Kent Cobras.  Although this was an exhibition game, Erie came out “Battling” on the boards and skating to the puck and looked more like the team they aspire to be.  In the first period Owen Ba made a rush and dished the puck in front of the net.  Nate M made an accurate pass from behind the net which was deflected by a Cobra defenseman.  Ty M, AJ D and Cole K made an effective string of passes up the ice to set up a scoring chance.   In the second, period Nate M scored assisted by Owen Ba and Michael H.  Nico S scored a breakaway shorthanded goal.  Colin R was solid in goal and left the game with 3 minutes remaining in the second.  His many saves earning him the first half of the shutout he would share with Ari Q.  Kohen C executed a powerful skate up the right hand boards and unloaded a great shot.  Nick W and Owen Bu blocked shots to help their goalies and keep the Cobra’s off the board.

In the third period Ty H passed the puck to Michael H who shot on net.  Nate M deflected the puck and Cale M cashed in the rebound to go up 3-0.  What a great team effort.  Nick W made a fluid run up the ice.  Ari Q made a screened save look simple.  She would later use her glove, shoulder and blocker for even more successful goalkeeping.  The last goal was scored as Cale M passed to Nate M who shot on net.  Michael  H picked up Nate’s rebound to finally score.  Getting shots threw to the net from the blueline was the key to start the offense.  Effective back checking by Cole K and Ty H and great stops by Matteo R kept Kent scoreless.  Quite a recovery team!!

Sunday found the team in Essex raring to compete against the Ravens.  It would prove a tight contest with Essex looking as hungry for the win as Erie was. Essex drew first blood.  Colin R made many notable saves in the first including breakaway save off his helmet with only 47 seconds remaining in the first period.  Nice shots were tallied by Cale and Ty M and Owen Ba rallied the team with an amazing poke check to hold the Ravens off.  The first period finished with the Storm playing much time in their own end.  Our defence, though down a man and affected by sickness, would not back down.  Owen Buch effectively cleared pucks during power plays and Nick W thwarted an Essex attack by standing up his opponent and stealing the puck.  Colin’s contribution was insurmountable as he made two great saves within 10 seconds left.  Erie finally got on the board at 3:58 in the 2nd when Cole K scored a wonderfully controlled goal assisted by Cale M.

The third period found the Storm now dictating the pressure of the game, doing all they could to try to find the back of the net.  Smart passes were executed by Nico S, Ty  M and Nate M.  Owen Ba stepped up consistently within the offensive zone to try to make it happen.  However, the buzzer ended the game at a tie.
