The
Erie North Shore Minor Atom Storm travelled across the border this weekend to
take on some American competition in the Mid Season Classic.
First action was against the host Troy Sting team on Friday night. Cale M came to play as he scored 4 goals. The first was early in the second period when he received a pass from Nico S and proceeded to break away and put an effective move on the goalie. Next he scored from behind the net off the goalie to increase the Storm’s lead to 2-0. Cale scored two more in the 3rd (assisted by Michael H and Matteo) and assisted with the 5th goal by passing to AJ D with 14 seconds left to secure a 5-0 victory. Notable plays were made by Colin (glove save) Kohen (shot off faceoff), Nate (behind net pass) and Nick W (broke up pass in front of net).
The Storm put on a scoring exhibition in Game 2 on Saturday Nov 9th against the Sylvania Stars as they earned a 15-0 victory. Scorers included Cole K (3), AJ, Nico, Ty M(3), Michael H, Owen Ba (2), Nate M (2) , Owen Bu and Nick W with assists from Cale M, Nate M, Ty H, Owen Ba, Kohen C, Michael H, Owen Bu, Cole K, AJ D, Nick W and Nico S.
Game 3 action began Sunday morning against the Lakeland Hawks. Ty Murray led off the scoring assisted by Nate M and was quickly followed up by a shot from the point by Owen Bu. Ari Q made a tremendous breakaway save. Owen Ba made a great rush down the ice in the final seconds of the period. Michael H scored on Cale M’s rebounded shot in the third and Cole K (assisted by Matteo) rounded off the Storm’s score to 4 in the 3rd period. The Ice Hawks would score in the 3rd to make the final score 4-1.
The Championship game was a rematch of game 3 and the players “STORMED” out ready to play a very physical Lakeland team. The Hawks pushed the envelope many times but Erie North Shore kept to their game plan of effective heads up passing and working the puck down the ice. All of the scoring was accomplished by the Storm in the 1st period as Cale M connected 3 times in the 1st ten minutes of play. First he stole the puck and deeked the goalie with an amazing move. Then he swung around to score (assisted by Ty M) and finally with less than 2 seconds left took a pass from Michael H and put the puck over the goal line. The team played incredibly well with great focus throughout the game. Notable plays were notched by Cole (breakaway), Nick W (steal) Ty M (fake and pass) Kohen (steal and clear) Owen Bu (backcheck) and most importantly 3 saves by Ari in 20 seconds to assure her shut out.
