The Erie North Shore Atom Minors ushered in
the New Year by scoring a combined 19 goals in 2 shut out games, one of which
was penalty free.
The Storm concentrated on accurate,
effective passing as illustrated by their first goal on January 2nd
vs Windsor Junior Spitfires in Kingsville.
AJ D passed to Michael H who accelerated through the defense to set up Cale M for the goal. Nick W and all the ‘D’ showed their skating abilities by weaving & pressuring the Jr Spits in the offensive zone creating scoring attempts for the forwards. Late in the period a series of passes would lead to the 2nd goal as Nico S passed to Ty M and on to Nate M who scored with 11 seconds left.
In the 2nd period great shots were attempted by Owen Bu and Kohen. A strong Storm breakout after a face-off in our own zone produced the 3rd goal. Ty H started the breakout by changing directions and putting the puck up the wing to Ty M who made a beautiful chip along the boards. Cale M supported the chip and broke up ice deaked the goalie to produce the 3-0 lead. Kohen C ended the period with an effective backcheck tying up the open man.
Ty Murray stole the puck on many occasions in the 3rd period and scored after a great stop and subsequent pass from Matteo R. Cole K made the score 5-0 when he scored through the 5-hole. The final goal of the game (assisted by Cole K) completed Cale M’s hat trick. Ari Q made good saves late in the 3rd to maintain her 6-0 shutout.
The Storm came out shooting against Southpoint at the Heinz arena on Saturday January 3rd. In a 13-0 decision Colin R posted the shutout and the following players put up points. Cale M (4 goals), Nate M (3 goals), Owen Bu (2 assists), Michael H (1 goal, 2 assists), AJ D ( 1 goal, 2 assists), Cole K (1 goal 2 assists), Matteo R (2 goal), Kohen C (1 assist), Ty M (1 goal, 2 assists), Nico S (2 assist), Ty H (2 assists), Nick W (2 assists), Owen Ba (2 assists).
Defensive plays of the game included blocked shots by Nick W and Owen Bu (on his knees) and fantastic backchecking by Owen Ba. Upcoming action includes games against LaSalle and Tecumseh next week as they prepare for International Silver Stick in mid January.
