The Bantam Minors have a great start to the new season with a big win against a AA team!
Saturday afternoon the Bantam Minors prepared to take on the Windsor Jr. Spitfires AA team for the first game of the season. The team was very excited to finally get to play a game together after several vigorous practices over the past few weeks. They also welcomed new players Donny White, Hunter Dufour and Jack McIntyre to the team as well as the return of teammates Declan Handley, Austin Marr and Colten Pavao. With netminder Connor Axford in place they prepared to take on one of the many AA teams they will face this season. Windsor got on the board first early in the period but the Storm fought back and tied it up 20 seconds later with a goal by Daniel Price assisted by Austin Marr and Declan Handley (glad to have you back boys!). Both teams played strong defensively and it only took a couple minutes into the game for the first of many penalties to be called. Windsor managed to score two more times before the end of the period and the Storm started the second with a two goal deficit to overcome. Austin Marr answered that call with an unassisted goal two minutes into the period and then Declan Handley tied it up with help from Daniel & Austin. Declan got the go-ahead goal a couple minutes later off a pass from Jack McIntyre and the Storm finished the second with a one goal lead with a score of 4-3. In the third both teams fought hard for the puck with Windsor tying up the score four minutes before the buzzer. A minute later the Storm came through with a big goal when Daniel Price got his second of the game assisted by Franco Shaften and Austin Marr. Austin then got his second of the game with a nice insurance goal 45 seconds before the final buzzer giving the Bantam Minors a 6-4 victory and their first win of the season! Both teams played a very physical game with the Storm accumulating a total of 18 penalty minutes while Windsor spent 20 minutes in the box. Great start to the season Storm! Congrats to Coach Jay and the entire Storm team for a job well done!
