The Bantam Minors continue with a strong performance against the AA teams!
09/10/2014 - Storm vs. Windsor Jr. Spitfires AA
Wednesday night the Bantam Minors prepared to take on the Windsor Jr. Spitfires AA team for the second time this season. The Windsor team was not at all happy with how the first game played out and were determined to save face. The Storm however would have none of that! Goalie Nate Jacobs took his turn in net and the team eagerly skated onto the Adie Knox ice. Both teams played strong defensively through the first period with only one penalty for the Windsor team called. Four minutes before the buzzer Daniel Price got the Storm on the board with an unassisted goal, and not satisfied with that scored again ten seconds later with another unassisted goal, giving the team a two goal lead going into the second. Windsor started to play more aggressively as they tried to dig out of the two goal deficit and instead were rewarded with several penalties, giving the Storm powerplay opportunities that they were unfortunately unable to take advantage of. In the third both teams kicked it up a notch getting more aggressive and physical as the game went on, resulting in 5 penalties for the Storm while Windsor drew 4. Windsor’s frustration continued to grow when Austin Marr got the Storm’s third goal of the game on a pass from Daniel Price, followed two minutes later by a goal from Hunter Dufour assisted by Rebecca Misiasz. Windsor finally managed to get one past goalie Nate robbing him of a shutout, but then Kristian Pelling answered that goal one minute later with an unassisted goal. Windsor managed to score one more time but it was too little too late and the Storm once again pulled off a big victory winning 5-2 against the Windsor AA team. Congrats Bantam Minors on another great win!
09/12/2014 - Storm vs. LaSalle Sabres AA
Friday night the Bantam Minors travelled to the Vollmer Centre to take on the LaSalle Sabres AA team. With goalie Connor Axford in net the team prepared to take on the Sabres for the first time this season. LaSalle immediately started playing a very aggressive game as they tried to intimidate the Storm and give the appearance of the powerhouse team they were in past seasons. The Storm players also started playing physical which resulted in a penalty filled game for both teams. The first period did not go the Storm’s way as LaSalle managed to get two goals past goalie Connor, one while on the powerplay. In the second the Storm had a player in the box for a good part of the period giving the Sabre’s more powerplay opportunities allowing them to score one more time. The third period saw both teams in the box for most of the period with LaSalle scoring two more times. Five minutes before the buzzer Trent Pickle ruined the LaSalle shutout scoring on a pass from Kristian Pelling. The Storm suffered their first loss of the season losing 5-1 against the LaSalle AA team. However in the past this team would beat the Storm in double digits so it was a definite improvement! Storm tough guys Owen Stannard, Austin Marr , Colten Pavao and Mitchell Renaud all spent time in the box as they stood up against the LaSalle players. Good effort out there Storm!
