Erie North Shore Storm Bantam Minors – 10/03/2014 – 10/05/2014
The Bantam Minors struggle this weekend against the remaining two A teams in the league.

10/03/2014 - Storm vs. Amherstburg A

Friday night the Bantam Minors travelled to the Libro Centre Arena to take on the Amherstburg Stars for the first time this season. Unfortunately the curse of the Friday night games seemed to revisit the team during this game. With goalie Connor Axford on the injured list for the next few weeks Nate Jacobs knew he had his work cut out for him. After successfully facing their AA opponents in the previous weeks the Storm just couldn’t seem to get in sync against the Amherstburg team. The Amherstburg team was much stronger than in previous seasons having gained some AA and AAA players, but were certainly a beatable team. The Storm held off the Stars through the first period and into the second when Amherstburg managed to sneak one past goalie Nate. The Storm tried to answer that goal but unfortunately suffered through twelve minutes in penalties in the third giving Amherstburg the powerplay opportunities they needed to score two more times. The Storm suffered their second loss of the season while giving Amherstburg their first win with a score of 3-0. Nate was strong in net as he fought off the Amherstburg attackers making many great saves as he tried to keep the Storm in the game. Now the team needed to put this loss behind them as they prepared for their next game on Sunday. A special thank you to AP goalie Cody Lewis for joining the team tonight as Nate’s backup.

10/05/2014 - Storm vs. Riverside A

Sunday evening the Bantam Minors were hosts to the Riverside Rangers. The Storm came into the game down two key players, goalie Connor Axford still out with an injury and Captain Franco Shaften who was serving a one game suspension acquired during the Amherstburg game. Still hurting from the loss on Friday the team was determined to play a better game tonight. The first period the Storm came out strong as they tried to control the puck while staying out of the penalty box. They were rewarded when Mitchell Renaud scored the first goal of the game assisted by Trent Pickle and Daniel Price. Into the second Riverside managed to tie up the score and then got the go-ahead goal a minute later. Austin Marr answered that goal five minutes later with help from Ryan Mucha and Declan Handley. One minute later Ryan Mucha broke the tie assisted by Colten Pavao and Daniel Price, and then the Storm did it again when Mitchell got his second of the game with a slapshot from the blueline, assisted by Austin Marr and Ryan Mucha. Going into the third the Storm showed the Rangers they weren’t finished when Declan Handley scored off a pass from Trent Pickle. Now ahead by three goals the Storm let their guard down allowing Riverside to score two more times, then once more on a disputed call where the puck didn’t cross the line but the refs called it anyway. The game ended in a tie and hardworking goalie Nate Jacobs did a fantastic job preventing it from ending in a loss. The Storm players were very disappointed and frustrated but put this behind them as they move ahead to prepare for next weeks games.
