Final Game Needed To Decide Storm - Stars Series
It will all come down to Tuesday night as the 3 games played this weekend had the same result as the previous weekend, an equal split of points.
The 2 teams headed into this weekends play tied at 2 points each in the six point series. They came out of the weekend tied at 5 points each.
Storm Vs. Amherstburg - Friday February 6/2014
An epic game in which both teams were battling hard in order to take the point lead in the series. Ellie cashed in during the first period by going end to end and burying a shot off the goalies blocker to put the Storm up 1-0. In the second Amherstburg scored twice to take a 2-1 lead. Matt tied it up in the third firing a shot along the ice finding its way under the goalie. Aaron gave the Storm the lead back half way through the third beating the goalie with a glove side wrist shot. Amherstburg scored shortly thereafter to force overtime. The extra frame settled nothing and each team took home a point. Final Score Storm 3 - Stars 3.
Amherstburg Vs. Storm - Saturday February 7/2014
The game started at 5:30pm. Unfortunately the Storm didn't start skating until 5:50pm and by that time found themselves in a 4-0 hole early in the second period. Although the Storm picked up their game the rest of the way, they found out the hard way that victory requires 3 strong periods, not two. Aaron notched a 3rd period tally to make the final Stars 4 - Storm 1, giving Amherstburg a 5-3 points lead.
Storm Vs. Amherstburg - Sunday February 8/2014
Facing elimination, the Storm started strong and were rewarded when Keegan drove the net and tipped home a nice pass from Troy to make the score 1-0. That score held up into the third period when Matt pulled the puck out from behind the net and jammed home an insurance marker early in the period. From there the team tightened up defensively and withstood the Amherstburg gauntlet. Tommy came up big in the final minutes securing the win and his second shutout of this years playdowns. Final Score Storm 2 - Stars 0. Series tied 5 points each.
Next up - the deciding game Tuesday 6:30pm in Harrow.
