On Sunday,
September 27th, the Storm went back on the road to face the
Riverside Rangers.
This would be the first of four meetings against the defending OMHA finalists for the 2006 age group and the Storm where out to make a statement. The Storm came hard out of the gates, creating a lot of scoring chances on the Rangers netminder. In the process, the Storm were able to score with 1:19 left in the first on a goal by Ashton Sim, a highlight reel goal with great passing from his line mates Ben Buchner and Sage Batke, giving the Storm the lead. But the Rangers pushed back scoring with only seconds left in the period to tie things up 1-1 after one. The 2nd period started off text book for the Storm with a quick goal from Batke off a Buchner rebound to give the Storm the lead and what would be the winning goal, as the Storm pulled off a 2-1 victory over the Rangers to remain undefeated. Again hard work paid off for the Storm with. If not for the great goaltending from Gannon Hunter, specifically in the final period, the result may have been much different. Hunter earned the player of the game for his stellar goaltending.
