Great start to the playdowns….
Novice AE fans weren’t disappointed with the action this past weekend as our team started the beginning of OMHA playdowns.
Tied for points with the Kent Cobras, we were awarded home ice advantage in a 6 point series.
Game one in Kingsville was a real nail-biter. So much back and forth action; each goal scored by the Storm was answered by the Cobras. Ariana was solid between the pipes, and our forwards worked together creating plays and helping the D with strong back checking. Elijah drew a penalty shot late in the third period and scored a sweet goal to tie the game and force an overtime.
Defence worked hard to prevent shots on net and pass the puck forward to create scoring opportunities. The puck saw equal action in both ends of the ice, with the overtime period proving to be the most exciting yet. Unfortunately for the Storm, the Cobras were able to capitalize on a scoring chance and found the back of our net scoring with just 58 seconds remaining in the period. Final score was 5-4 Cobras.
Sunday we travelled to Tilbury in an attempt to redeem ourselves. Another exciting game between two teams closely matched, this time we claimed victory with a 3-2 win over Kent, tying the series at 2 points each.
We resume play on Saturday in the Kingsville arena at 3:20. Come and cheer your favourite Storm team on!!
