Atom Minors Grab Victory in Season Opener
Saturday marked the start of the season for the Atom
Minor Storm.
Game one was at our home rink as we took on the Southpoint Capitals and the fans would not be disappointed. After a bit of a slow start, the Storm got on the score board with goal from Ashton Sim who sprung lose on a breakaway with a pass from Nevan Branco to give the Storm a one goal lead after one. Three minutes into the second Ben Buchner scored on a breakaway making it 2-0 early into the second with assists going to Sim and Ava Merritt. As the second went on Southpoint battled back tying the game up with 4 seconds left in the second. A minute into the third Southpoint took the lead in the game but it would not last long due to hard work of the ensuing face off with Reyth Smith netting the tying goal only 12 seconds later with assist going to Elijah Pezzotti and Sage Batke. As the third period rolled on the Storm started to put the pressure on the Capitals, hemming them in their end for most of the third, until with 2:30 left in the third Ben Buchner would be sent on his second breakaway of the game scoring what would be the winning goal with assists going the Smith and Noah Dufour as the storm rolled on to win 4-3 in their first game of the season. A big shout out to Noah Dufour who was crowned the Player of the Game for his hard work throughout the entire game, stalling the Southpoint big guns.
