PeeWee Majors don’t disappoint at season opener!!

09/07/13 – Storm vs. Riverside Rangers A

The Peewee Majors made their way to the WFCU Centre on Saturday September 7 to face the Riverside Rangers in the first game of the season. The Storm players were pumped and enthusiastic after two vigorous practices during the week. Both teams hit the ice determined to be the victors in this opening game, with Riverside playing very strong offensively and getting all 7 shots on net for the first period. Goalie Nathan Jacobs had his work cut out for him as he fought off the Ranger attackers along with the Storm defense. The period ended without any scoring and the Storm regrouped and prepared for a stronger second period.
Riverside managed to get on the board two minutes into the period and took the lead until the Storm took over and began peppering the Ranger goalie with shots. Ten minutes into the period on a pass from Owen Stannard, Rebecca Misiasz deked the goalie and scored the first Storm goal of the season! Two minutes later the Storm struck again when Ryan Mucha put one between the pipes on the powerplay assisted by Adrian Ridsdale! The Storm outshot the Rangers 11 to 9 and the second period ended with the Storm leading the way!
With Goalie Scotti Beneteau defending the net for the second half of the game the Storm prepared to secure their lead, and added another to the tally when Robbie Brush got the third Storm goal of the game assisted by Ethan Litster! Riverside fought back hard and managed to slip two more goals in to tie the score, but Austin Marr would have none of that and popped in the winning goal unassisted four minutes before the final buzzer!
The Storm outshot the Rangers once again in the third 10 to 8, but overall the Rangers had the most shots at 24 to 21. Goalies Nathan Jacobs and Scotti Beneteau share the 4 – 3 win along with the entire team who all performed great together!

Fantastic first game Peewee Majors!!!

09/08/13 – Storm vs. LaSalle Sabres AA

PeeWee Majors don’t back down against powerful AA team!

The PeeWee Majors travelled to the Vollmer Centre in LaSalle on Sunday September 8 to face the LaSalle Sabres AA team. They knew going in this would be a tough game as LaSalle finished in 1st place the previous season. Unfortunately it soon became very apparent that this team was even stronger than last season after adding four AAA players to their roster.
The game was very one-sided from beginning to end but the Storm players refused to back down and played hard throughout the game. The Storm kept LaSalle off the board until ten minutes into the first period when the first one slipped through. Goalies Scott Beneteau and Nathan Jacobs shared netminding duties and had their work cut out for them as they faced a total of 24 shots. Both goalies made many incredible saves and accrued some valuable game experience fighting off such a strong opponent.
The Storm had several good scoring opportunities but the hockey gods were not looking in our favour during several goal mouth scrambles, and also when Ethan Litster’s shot off a pass from Rebecca Misiasz hit the crossbar just missing out on a goal. The aggressive play by both sides resulted in busy penalty boxes, with the Storm unable to take advantage of the powerplays. Storm tough guy Franco Shaften was on the receiving end of two roughing penalties after showing the Sabres he wasn’t intimidated by them! Forward Austin Marr’s battle for the puck resulted in a very painful lost fingernail near the end of the game, which fortunately was the only injury the team sustained.
It was a classic David vs. Goliath scenario as the Storm A team battled against the AA and AAA players from LaSalle. The Storm defense, KayCyn Hernandez, Ryan Mucha, Mitchell Renaud, Franco Shaften and Rebecca Misiasz, were kept very busy and put up a good fight throughout the game. Forwards Kristian Pelling, Trent Pickle, Daniel Price, Robbie Brush, Austin Marr, Owen Stannard, Ethan Litster and Adrian Ridsdale all made valiant efforts to get the Storm on the board. It was a very difficult and tough loss for the Storm but the players refused to back down and right up to the final buzzer fought hard for the puck.

Great effort out there Storm!
