A short roster doesn’t stop the Peewee Minors from great success this weekend!
Friday Dec.7 the Storm took on the Riverside Rangers on home ice. The Peewee Minors were playing with a short roster with captain Ryan Mucha on the injured list and defenseman Franco Shaften away for the weekend. Goalie Connor Axford was the Storm defender for the game and forward Declan Handley took on the role of defense and did an outstanding job helping to fill the void left by the two missing players. Both teams remained scoreless until halfway through the first period when Robbie Brush got one past the Riverside goalie with help from Ethan Litster. Ethan decided to get one of his own two minutes into the second period with assists from Robbie and Owen Stannard. Riverside answered that goal less than a minute later, so Robbie put it in the net again with the game winning goal, once again with Ethan’s help. One minute later the Storm scored again with a goal from Daniel Price, assisted by Rebecca Misiasz. To finish off the second period scoring Robbie scored his third goal of the game earning a hat-trick! Robbie was assisted by Rebecca and Michael Connelly on the goal! Fantastic job Robbie!! The Storm didn’t let up in the third period, with Daniel scoring an unassisted goal two minutes into the period. Riverside managed to squeak one more past the goalie but the Storm responded quickly with the final goal of the game scored by Owen and assisted by Robbie. The Storm outshot their opponents 34-17 with a final score of 7-2! Great game Storm!!
Sunday Dec.9 the Peewee Minors travelled to Tilbury to take on the Kent Cobras A team. Playing with a short roster once again did not stop the Storm from playing another outstanding game! Coming off a great game Friday, Robbie Brush proved again what a powerhouse he is by scoring the first goal of the game 30 seconds before the first period buzzer. Robbie was assisted by Owen Stannard and Kristian Pelling on the goal. Following suit, a few seconds later Rebecca Misiasz got one past the goalie putting the game winner in the net, assisted by Declan Handley. Going into the second the Storm had a more difficult time getting through the Cobra defense but still managed to get one in the net with a goal by Owen assisted by Daniel Price. The third period was a different story with the Storm totally dominating their opponent! Rebecca started it off with an unassisted goal three minutes into the period. Austin Marr scored the next goal assisted by Robbie Brush. Ethan Litster then scored two consecutive goals, the first assisted by Declan and the second with help from Owen. Robbie was next with his second of the game, assisted by Kristian and Rebecca. The final Storm goal of the game was number three for Ethan giving him a hat-trick!! Ethan was assisted by Owen on the goal. Great work out there Ethan! The Cobras managed to put one past goalie Scotti Beneteau just before the game ended robbing him of the shut-out. Declan once again did a great job filling in for our missing defensemen, and with all the other defensive players – KayCyn Hernandez, Michael Connelly and Mitchell Renaud - kicked it up a notch and played two outstanding games this weekend! The Storm outshot the Cobras by a huge margin of 37-14 and with a final score of 9-1 earned another great victory!
