Erie North Shore Storm Peewee Minors 01/04/13-01/06/13
Final games of the regular season challenging for the Peewee Minor Storm!

The last weekend of regular play was a full one for the Storm, with a practice Thursday and games Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Friday January 4 the Storm were the home team against the Kent Cobra A team. The first period saw no scoring by either team even though both had power play advantages. Thirty seconds into the second period the Storm broke the deadlock with a goal by Austin Marr assisted by Kristian Pelling. Two minutes later the Cobras tied it up, but not for long when Michael Connelly scored two minutes after the Kent goal assisted by Robbie Brush, putting the Storm in the lead again! Not to be outdone, Kristian Pelling scored a goal of his own and the game winner five minutes before the second period buzzer, assisted by Ryan Mucha and KayCyn Hernandez. In the third period the Storm got another insurance goal from Declan Handley assisted by Franco Shaften. Kent scored once more before the final buzzer but it wasn’t enough to get ahead of the Storm. With a final score of 4-2 the Storm added another victory but also lost a defensive player to suspension which would take its toll in the last two regular season games. The Storm outplayed and outshot their opponents 36-12 and goalie Scotti Beneteau did a great job defending the net.

Saturday January 5 the Storm travelled to Chatham to take on the AA team from Kent. This would be a very physical and injury plagued game for the team. Goalie Scotti Beneteau started the game until an injury in the second period necessitated a goalie change and Connor Axford stepped in to finish in net. The team played strong against the AA Cobras but try as they might were unable to solve the goalie. Kent managed to get two goals in the first and one in the second but were shutout in the third thanks to a strong Storm defense and goal tending! Even though the game ended in a 3-0 loss the Storm outshot this team 21-18 proving that they are a very strong offensive force as well! Unfortunately the Storm lost another player to injury during this game leaving the team down two players going into the final game of the regular season.

Sunday January 5 the Storm travelled to Essex to take on the Ravens. Both teams were currently tied for first place in their division so this was a very important game to win. With a short roster and goalie Connor Axford in net the team came out playing hard. With no scoring by either team in the first and second period the third period became critical and both teams tried to kick it up a notch. Unfortunately with two players missing the Storm struggled to continue playing at their highest level and Essex took full advantage by scoring four unanswered goals just minutes apart. With a loss of 4-0 the Storm were also outshot 24-12 but still finished the season in a very strong and impressive second place for their division!

Next week the Storm begins OMHA playdowns at Essex Arena!
